Five years later, all four will die, three by suicide and one by hanging. This was perhaps the last peaceful moment, two months after the invasion of the Soviet Union would begin.

You can almost see here Himmler's distaste for Göring. Goering was the head of the Luftwaffe and initially Hitler's right-hand man.

But after the Luftwaffe did not do well in the Battle of Britain, Göring fell out of favor with Hitler and was gradually ousted by Himmler, who replaced him as number two.

Göring was also a very corrupt man, used his position to take bribes, collected property he had confiscated from the Jews, while Himmler was the real evil driving the Nazis. He circumnavigated the Holocaust and was the head of the SS and the Gestapo.

Hitler and his wife Eva Braun committed suicide. Brown entered the cyanide capsule and Hitler shot himself.

Wilhelm Keitel was tried in the Allied Court at Nuremberg, sentenced to death, and hanged as a war criminal. He was the third highest ranking German officer to be tried at Nuremberg.

Heinrich Himmler was captured by the British army. He was taken to the headquarters of the 2nd British Army in Lüneburg, where a doctor conducted a medical examination of Himmler. The doctor attempted to examine the inside of Himmler's mouth, but the prisoner was reluctant to open it and jerked his head. Himmler then got bitten in a hidden cyanide bullet and fell to the floor. He was dead within fifteen minutes.

Hermann Goering was sentenced to death at the Nuremberg trial. Goering appealed to be shot as a soldier rather than hanged as a common criminal, but the court refused. Defying the punishment imposed by his captives, he committed suicide with potassium cyanide capsules the night before his execution.
