German SS troops relaxing at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin

These soldiers are members of the Leibstandart SS "Adolf Hitler", at this time the regiment served as Hitler's personal bodyguard and guard of honor at public functions. It would later evolve to form the Elite 1 SS Division LAH.

He was tasked with being Hitler's personal bodyguard, with a vast army of SS soldiers following the Führer wherever he went. They were also deployed in combat and were one of the most capable units in the war.

Initially, as the military wing of the party, the SS recruited fanatical Nazis and supporters and made sure to drill them properly as well as equip them with the best equipment.

After all, he was the poster boy of the Aryan caste. As the war broke out and casualties increased, the drill was focused as best as possible on a few elite units as it was difficult to maintain standards at a time of lack of equipment and manpower. But those earlier units remained formidable enemies.

Well drilled, equipped and hardcore. The LAH, because it always put Hitler's name first to get the best recruits, the best sergeants, the best and new equipment, so it remained an elite unit until the end, even though the actual number of soldiers was almost depleted .

While a multitude of uniforms existed for the SS, often depending on the theater of war where they were stationed, the all-black SS uniform is the most famous. Kale was seen as gloomy and authoritative. The black-white-red color scheme was characteristic of the German Empire and was later adopted by the Nazi Party.

In addition, black was popular with fascist movements: a black uniform was introduced by blackshirts in Italy prior to the creation of the SS. There was also a traditional reason. Just as the lifeguard cavalry (Leibhusren) of Prussian kings and emperors wore black uniforms with skull and crossbones badges, so would the bodyguard unit of the Führer.

As with many more formal military uniforms, these SS uniforms were designed to conform to project authority, and foster awe and respect. As Himmler said, "I know that many people fall ill at the sight of this black uniform; we understand this and do not expect that many people will love us.
