Egypt proposes sweeping plan for Gaza War ceasefire plan

Cairo has unveiled a plan that would seek to end the Israel-Hamas war that would prove ambitious, a senior Egyptian official and a European diplomat acknowledged to The Associated Press.

Egypt prepared the plan with input from Qatar, which will also participate in the implementation of the plan. The unidentified Egyptian official said the two countries would coordinate with all Palestinian factions, including Hamas, to establish a government of experts.

The plan includes a phased hostage release "for all" and the creation of a Palestinian government to administer the Gaza Strip and the West Bank that will abide by the ceasefire.

Palestinian officials have claimed that approximately 8,000 Palestinians are in Israeli custody on security-related charges or convictions.

Israel would also have to withdraw from Gaza, which would coincide with Hamas and Islamic Jihad ending their attacks on Israel.
