Holiday party attack in Mexico leaves 12 dead: authorities

 Armed group opened fire on people who came to the party

A dozen people were killed when a group opened fire at a holiday party in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato on Sunday, according to Reuters.

Mexican officials said the attack occurred at dawn in the city of Salvatierra.

Authorities said the attack occurred when an armed group opened fire on party guests attending a posada, a traditional Mexican party held during the Christmas holidays.

The state attorney general's office announced the deadly attack on X, formerly known as Twitter, left 12 people dead, but further details of the attack and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.


According to statistics, in recent years, amid tensions between powerful drug trafficking groups, Guanajuato, which is home to a large number of automotive and aeronautical factories, has become one of the most violent states in the country.
