She began her career on stage in the mid-1950s, before landing her breakthrough role in the 1958 drama film God's Little Acre, for which she received a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year.

Tina was born in New York City to a fashion model mother and a candy store owner father. She grew up in a diverse environment, being exposed to different cultures due to her Russian, Italian, and Irish heritage.

Lewis made his film debut in 1958 in God's Little Acre. That same year, the National Council of the Arts named her "The World's Most Beautiful Redhead".

The following year, she starred opposite Robert Ryan in Day of the Outlaw. She became a leading lady for stars such as Robert Taylor and Richard Widmark, often playing sad roles.


Her portrayal of a glamorous movie star stranded on a desert island enthralled audiences and cemented her place in pop culture.

Despite the show's success, Lewis expressed some frustration at being typecast after "Gilligan's Island" ended, as she wanted to be recognized for her versatility as an actress.

Although she continued to work in film and make guest appearances on television, she repeatedly claimed that playing Ginger ruined her film career. She did not appear in any of the subsequent Gilligan's Island sequel films.


Lewis attempted to change his comedic image by playing serious roles such as a heroin addict in a 1974 episode of Kojak and a brutal corrections officer in the 1976 television film Nightmare in Badham County.


Although Lewis declined to participate in any of the three Gilligan's Island reunion television films, he did make brief walk-on appearances on some talk shows and specials for the Gilligan's Island reunion, including Good Morning America (1982). , The Late Show (1988) and. 2004 TV Land Awards Show with other living cast members.
