House GOP says Hunter Biden ‘violated federal law' by defying subpoena, prepare contempt resolution

House Oversight and Judiciary Committees to consider contempt of Congress resolution on Wednesday

House Republicans have prepared a resolution that would convict Hunter Biden of contempt of Congress after the first son's "criminal act" of disobeying a congressional subpoena and part of the House's impeachment inquiry against President Biden. In form of.

Fox News Digital on Monday received the contempt motion and related reports from the House Oversight and Judiciary committees.

Instead, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill to give a statement to the press, disregarding that subpoena, and saying he would only testify in a public setting.

"Mr. Biden violated federal law, and he should be held in contempt of Congress," the report said.

The House Oversight Report identifies Hunter Biden's testimony as "a critical component of the impeachment investigation by examining, among other things, whether Joseph R. Biden, Jr., as Vice President and/or President: (1) took any official action or effected any change in public policy by reason of giving money or other valuable things to himself or his family; (2) subverting the public trust by granting access to him and his office to his family or to foreign interests in return for payments to him; abused his office; or (3) knowingly participates in a scheme to enrich himself or his family by giving the appearance to foreign interests that they will gain access to him and his office in exchange for payments to his family or to him , abused his position of public trust.

“The Oversight and Accountability Committee, along with other investigating committees, have accumulated significant evidence that shows President Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from foreign business interests held by his son, “The committees intended to question Mr. Biden about his statement,” the report said.

"Mr. Biden's decision to disregard the Committee's subpoena and deliver prepared remarks prevents the Committee from carrying out its constitutional oversight function and impeachment investigation," it continues.

The report and proposal are scheduled to be considered by the House Oversight Committee during a markup meeting on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

“Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with our subpoena is contempt of Congress and requires referral to the appropriate United States Attorney’s Office for prosecution,” Comer said last week. "We will not provide him with special treatment because of his last name."

The House Judiciary Committee will also hold a similar markup on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. on whether to convict Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress.

Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., criticized the move, saying, "There is no precedent for the U.S. House of Representatives holding a private citizen in contempt of Congress who has publicly, under oath, and "Offered to testify within a day." Committee's choice. Chairman Comer repeatedly urged Hunter Biden to appear at the Committee hearing, and Hunter Biden agreed."

Meanwhile, last month, Comer and Jordan expanded their investigation to investigate whether President Biden was involved in his son's "plan" to disregard his subpoena to testify earlier this month — they say. That conduct, "may constitute an impeachable offense."

The House impeachment inquiry into President Biden was formalized by the full House last month. The inquiry is being led by Comer, Jordan and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo.
