KING OF HIS CASTLE Modern-day ‘King Canute’ builds 7ft flood wall protecting £600k home as aerial pics show dry garden surrounded by water

Since they moved to the four-bedroom detached property in Pixham, Worcestershire in 2016, the house and acres of land have flooded 11 times.

The couple became so fed up with the expensive cleanup that they decided to surround the entire property with 7-foot-high flood protection.

Nick and Anne spent four months building the brick barrier and finally completed it last October, just weeks before Hurricane Hank hit the UK.

Stunning drone images show a black and white house and courtyard surrounded by floodwaters after the River Severn burst its banks earlier this week.

“We bought the house with our eyes open,” Nick said.

“We have been hit by floods 11 times since 2016. We live in a beautiful part of the world, right next to the River Severn, we have one drawback – we get hit by floods.

“Eventually we decided to build a wall around the house ourselves.

“We built it last summer and it took about four months to complete.”

Residents living nearby have congratulated the couple for taking action to protect their home.

One said: “Nick is a brilliant lad and we all admire him for what he has done – we call him Worcester's answer to King Canute.

“Flooding is such a problem here. Flooding does not just happen in fields, it also happens in roads and houses.”

“The powers that be must act soon to stop this suffering happening again and again otherwise people will simply walk away.”

Part of the property was once a river boat inn.

When it was a pub, the sound of beer barrels floating in the basement was a sign of rising water.

Before building the flood wall, Nick and Anne installed barriers in front of doors and pumps under the floor to keep flood water out.

The couple re-mortgaged to pay for the flood wall and said they expected the value of their home to increase as a result.
