Pennsylvania suspect arrested for pretending to be cop, allegedly stealing police gear

Pennsylvania police arrested a suspect who allegedly pretended to be a law enforcement officer during a fake traffic stop in December.

According to the Lehman Township Police Department, Paul Dolan was charged with impersonating a public servant, driving without a license and receiving stolen property. He was also charged with drug, weapons and theft crimes.

The police department was alerted to the situation after Dolan stopped a driver on December 13.

"This individual reported having a flat tire on Old 115 just past Church Road and was approached by a white male who said he was a police officer," a Facebook post from the Lehman Township Police Department said. " “The male demanded the complainant take the car from Old 115 to a dirt section of Church Road.”

The department said Dolan "made several statements about being a police officer" and even said he worked at a nearby military barracks. The suspect also claimed that he was posted abroad.

Dolan was arrested on December 23, after police executed a search warrant on his vehicle on December 24. Officers reportedly found police equipment they believe was stolen, as well as drugs and weapons.

"Investigation revealed to officials that he was never in the army and is not a police officer," police said. “This investigation led to the discovery of a number of criminal facts which led to the arrest of this individual.”

The Lehman Township Police Department encourages residents who recognize Dolan and his vehicle to report any interactions they had with him.
