Plane taking off from Dulles airport makes emergency landing on highway

 A plane made an emergency landing on Loudoun County Parkway in Virginia on Friday after taking off from Dulles International Airport.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said southbound lanes on the parkway were closed after the small plane landed on the roadway near Arcola Mills Drive and blocked traffic. There is no delay on the north side.

The plane is Southern Airways Express Flight 246, which took off from Dulles at 12:45 p.m. And according to flight tracking website FlightAware, it was scheduled to land in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Authorities said that at approximately 12:51 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a call about a small, private plane that made an emergency landing in the DIRECT lane of the Loudoun County Parkway, Fox 5 DC reports.

There is no report of anyone being injured.
The reason for the diversion is currently unknown.
