Todd And Julie Chrisley Receive $1 Million Following Tax Evasion Investigation Against Reality Stars

Todd and Julie Chrisley have scored a legal victory after being awarded a $1 million settlement following a tax evasion investigation against the two reality TV stars.

An attorney for the Chrisleys — who are both behind bars in 2022 after pleading guilty to fraud and tax evasion — announced Tuesday that the state of Georgia paid the stars of "Chrisley Knows Best" a million-dollar settlement , People magazine reported.

It resolves her federal lawsuit filed in 2019 against Joshua Waites, the former director of special investigations for the state Department of Revenue. The outlet reported that the Chrisleys filed a lawsuit against the Waites for "specifically targeting" their family after being acquitted of state tax evasion charges in GA.

"We have been saying for months that the criminal case against the Chrisleys was highly unusual and contained real problems," the family's attorney, Alex Little of Burr & Forman LLP, said in a statement. “This agreement is an encouraging sign.”

"It is almost unprecedented for one arm of the government to pay defendants money while the other arm is fighting to keep them in jail," the statement said.

However, despite being cleared in Georgia, the reality couple was convicted in August 2019. In June 2022, the pair were convicted of bank fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Additionally, Julie was also convicted of wire fraud and obstruction of justice. He has denied the allegations.

The couple were sentenced in November 2022 to a total of 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to a multimillion-dollar bank fraud and tax evasion scheme, the people said. Both were also ordered to serve an additional 16 months of probation after their release.

Chrisleys reported to begin his personal sentence in January 2023. Later in the year, a judge reduced Todd's 12-year sentence by two years and Julie's 7-year sentence by 14 months, as previously reported.

Chrisley's attorneys will return to court in April to deal with the appeal of his criminal conviction, which will take place in Atlanta.
