An elderly woman shoveling recently fallen snow in New York City was killed in a freak accident Tuesday when a decorative window facade fell and killed her.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Fox News Digital that 74-year-old Dale Singer was shoveling snow from her Brooklyn, New York City brownstone when a piece of the historic building fell on her and killed her.

Police said the woman was reportedly shoveling snow from her front porch at the time of the incident.

Authorities said they were called to a Brooklyn brownstone home around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The NYPD said a 911 call saying the building partially collapsed seriously injured a woman who was outside at the time of the deadly crash.

He was later declared dead at the hospital, police said.

Police said initial reports indicate the three-story brownstone building collapsed while the woman was shoveling snow.

The news comes as a major winter storm dumped snow across the NYC area, leaving inches of snow on the ground.

On Tuesday morning, forecasters warned that snowfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour in New York City by morning.
