Maryland officials: 8 workers on bridge during collapse; 2 rescued, search and rescue for 6 ongoing

"Our response teams are making every possible effort to rescue and recover the victims of this accident," Moore said.

“Preliminary investigation points towards an accident,” he said.

According to DOT Secretary Paul Wiedefeld, eight employees contracted with the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation to repair potholes on the bridge were working at the time of its collapse. Two of them were pulled out of the water, one is in critical condition and has been admitted to the hospital. The other one is not in the hospital.

Wiedefeld said six workers were unaccounted for and a search was underway.

  1. They should have moved faster and finished "repairing" potholes, instead of placing miles of orange cones and barrels all over the place. The road should have been built better so they didn't need pothole repairs.
