Maryland Senate candidates react to Francis Scott Key Bridge tragedy

Candidates running for U.S. Senate in Maryland on Tuesday gave statements of support to first responders working at the scene of the Francis Scott Bridge collapse in Baltimore.

"We are saddened by the tragedy on the Francis Scott Bridge," former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan posted on Twitter. "Yumi and I are praying for the missing and their loved ones, and ask all Marylanders to keep them in your thoughts."

“We are incredibly grateful to the first responders and rescue teams working to save lives,” Hogan said.

Rep. David Trone, D-Md., one of two leading Democrats running for his party's Senate nomination in the May 14 primary election, also issued a statement calling it a "devastating tragedy."

"Our thoughts are with the people and their families who were on the bridge when it collapsed," Troon said. “We are grateful to the incredible emergency responders who are bravely fighting to save survivors.”

Trone added, "Baltimore is a city known for its resiliency, and we must all rally around Baltimore now as the city begins to recover, rebuild, and move forward."

“I am grateful for Governor Moore’s leadership and will work closely with my colleagues in Congress and Maryland to do whatever we can to help Baltimore and our state.”
