Millions along I-95 corridor from New York to Boston face flood risk Wednesday

A flood watch has been issued from New Jersey to Massachusetts.

Following Tuesday's heavy rain, people living along and east of the Interstate 95 corridor are at risk of flash flooding from another storm by Wednesday.

A weak coastal low moved toward the East Coast, spreading rain northward into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Tuesday.

Heavy rain will begin again in the mid-Atlantic early Wednesday morning and spread northward into the Northeast and New England later in the day. Rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches are expected through Thursday.

Flash flooding will be a concern as atmospheric moisture is expected to be above average for this time of year.

"This next storm from the south will also bring moisture to the Gulf," said Fox Weather meteorologist Britta Merwin. “So I think we're more likely to have concerns about flooding by the end of the week.”

A flood watch has been issued from New Jersey to Massachusetts through Thursday. A flood warning is in effect for the Pawcatuck River in Westerly, Rhode Island, which will affect Washington and New London counties.

"It's interesting to see that hot spot in New England," Merwin said. "That's probably where the greatest potential for flooding is."

How heavy is it really going to rain?

There will be a lack of cold air again but there may be enough overlap to bring light snowfall to northern New England.

According to the Fox Forecast Center, the next chance of snow will come later this week as an area of low pressure moves through the Midwest. The forecast remains highly uncertain as computer forecast models are still trying to figure out where the low will track and whether there will be enough cold air.
