Northeast facing weekend snow threat as winter returns to New England, upstate New York

This new storm threat comes after two previous storms that threatened flooding along the Interstate 95 corridor on Wednesday.

Millions of people in the Northeast hoping for a reprieve from recent disappointing weather will have to wait a little longer for spring-like weather, as the Fox Forecast Center expects another storm this weekend that could bring additional rain, Will bring wind – and unlike previous storms, some snowfall.

This new storm follows storms that dropped 2-3 inches or more of rain and threatened flooding along the Interstate 95 corridor, including Philadelphia, New York City and Boston, on Wednesday.

The Fox Forecast Center says the new system is expected to exit the Midwest by Saturday, worsen in the Northeast, and begin producing rainfall from west to east, where it will reach New England by Saturday night.

There could be enough cold air in the interior Northeast and northern New England to cause snow during the start of the storm and continue through Sunday.

The early forecast includes more than 6 inches of snowfall in the highlands of northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

But in the south, another dose of rain is on the way after a few inches of rain increased over the past week.

By the time the storm system moves out of the area at the end of the weekend, parts of the Northeast could see 8 inches or more of rain from all three storms impacting the area.

Additionally, the Fox Forecast Center says strong southerly winds could push water onto the coast, causing significant coastal flooding from Massachusetts to Maine during high tide Sunday morning.

There is also a new moon on Sunday, so there will be astronomically high tides, so it won't be long before coastal communities are inundated.

At the end of the program on Sunday night, the Fox Forecast Center says the switch to stronger northerly winds will push the rain/snow line southward, which means cities like Hartford in Connecticut, Providence in Rhode Island and Boston. There may be some snowfall. Before the storm ends.
