What happened to Bernie Sanders supporters on Super Tuesday in 2020?

Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., entered the 2020 presidential race with momentum from the 2016 race and early wins, but his Super Tuesday results changed the direction of his entire campaign.

In 2016, while Sanders trailed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he won several key states and was expected to perform well in the 2020 campaign.

Sanders is nearly tied with Pete Buttigieg, with a margin of 0.1%, for the Iowa 2020 caucuses, the state that kicks off the Democrat nominating calendar. Sanders then won both the New Hampshire and Nevada caucuses.

However, in his home state of Vermont, where Sanders won 86% of the vote over Hillary Clinton four years ago, the progressive received only 50% of the vote.

While Sanders appeared to be in the race for the Democratic nomination, he did not perform well on Super Tuesday despite his big 2016 victory.

Despite Sanders beating Clinton to win the Super Tuesday states in 2016, now-President Biden was declared the winner of 10 states on the first night.

Sanders suspended his campaign just a month later in April.
